(EMAILWIRE.COM, July 25, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- Environment Canada followed the storm on Saturday morning issuing storm, flood and tornado watches to several towns. By the afternoon, the group had bumped the watches up to warnings after someone sent them a picture of a tornado that had touched down near the Carlyle area.
Meteorologist Bill Purcell couldnt say whether any damage had occured, but did notify residents that there was one confirmed report of a tornado and several other storms were giving good conditions for others to develop.
Tennis ball-sized hail also affected Carlyle and Bengough, and Purcell warned that the hail was potentially dangerous for anyone during the thunderstorms. He advised residents to take cover in a safe place until the storms passed as people were sending him photos of holes in windshields due to the hail.
By 5 p.m. yesterday, eight communities and their surrounding areas were under a tornado warning, including Estavan, Weyburn, Oxbow, Carnduff and Staughton, but watches were issued in Fort QuAppelle, Indian Head, Lumsden, Pilot Butte, Grenfell and others.
When the storms were over, people went out to assess the damage. While there were no reports severe damage, many vehicles suffered damage due to hail. Ted Lenzen, who lives in Rhein, said a number of trees in his yard have been uprooted. He thinks the cleanup will take months.
